MAKING MUSIC BRINGS GREAT JOY

Music matters, which is why I teach drums. My speciality is beginner to advanced school band musicians who are taught to become confident readers and players, trained equally in technique and musicality. Students benefit from my 37 years of teaching and performing with both a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education.

YOUR CHOICE OF DRUM PROGRAMS

•Drum Set - mainly drum set but also snare, and if desired, keyboard (mallets).

DO I HAVE TO BUY A DRUM SET?

Many drummers DO NOT start with a drum set, they start with a pair of sticks, a practice pad, and some music. Since drums have a high “cool” factor, I recommend waiting a few months to see if the student is serious. The good news is, a drum set is relatively cheap, $500-600 will get you a very nice kit that can last a lifetime. Compare that to a tenor saxophone which costs $1800!

ARE DRUMS MUSICAL?

Yes, without question. The same musical decisions and considerations that a horn or piano player make, are also made by a drummer.

ARE DRUMS LOUD?

Practice pads are silent and drum sets can be 95% silenced with special pads called “Sound Offs” that cost about $60 and are available at most music stores.
